606 Deep Groove Ball Bearing

606 is a miniature deep groove ball bearing with standard size 6×17×6mm, mainly designed to carry radial load and a certain degree of bidirectional axial load. It features a simple structure, low friction, low noise, stable rotation and easy installation, widely used in light‑load, low‑to‑medium high‑speed miniature equipment.

This bearing adopts GCr15 high‑carbon chromium bearing steel with hardness HRC60‑62, offering good wear resistance and fatigue life. It is available in three types: open, 606‑2Z metal shielded and 606‑2RS rubber sealed, pre‑lubricated for maintenance‑free operation under normal conditions.

With standard precision ABEC‑1 / P0, limiting speed up to 18,000–25,000 r/min and working temperature from ‑30℃ to 80℃, it is ideal for small motors, household appliances, office equipment, micro pumps, sensors, toys and precision instruments.

Installation Requirements

  1. Cleaning & Preparation: Thoroughly clean the bearing seat, shaft and mating parts before installation, and ensure no dust, burrs or impurities remain to avoid wear and noise.

  2. Mounting Method: Use a special press tool for press-fit installation, apply uniform force to the bearing inner ring (for shaft mounting) or outer ring (for housing mounting), and never strike the bearing directly with a hammer to prevent damage to the raceway and balls.

  3. Lubrication: For pre-lubricated sealed bearings (606-2RS/606-2Z), no additional lubrication is required during installation. For open-type bearings, fill with appropriate lithium-based grease before installation, and control the filling amount to avoid excessive grease causing overheating.

  4. Alignment & Clearance: Ensure the shaft and bearing seat are coaxial, avoid misalignment and eccentric load, and check the radial/axial clearance after installation to ensure smooth rotation without jamming.

Maintenance Requirements

  1. Regular Inspection: Periodically check the bearing's running status, including noise, temperature and vibration. If abnormal noise, overheating or jamming occurs, stop the machine immediately for inspection.

  2. Lubrication Maintenance: For open-type bearings, replenish grease regularly according to the operating environment and speed. Sealed bearings are maintenance-free under normal working conditions, but avoid long-term operation in high-temperature, high-humidity or dusty environments.

  3. Storage Requirements: Store unused bearings in a dry, cool, dust-free environment, keep them in the original packaging, and avoid stacking and impact to prevent deformation and rust.

  4. Replacement Standard: Replace the bearing in time when there is obvious wear, pitting on the raceway, cage damage or excessive clearance, to avoid equipment failure.

Common Failure Modes & Causes

1. Fatigue Spalling / Pitting

  • Manifestation: Flaking or pitting on the raceway and rolling elements, accompanied by increased noise and vibration.

  • Causes: Long-term overload operation, excessive axial/radial load, poor lubrication, or material fatigue from prolonged high-speed rotation.

2. Abrasive Wear / Scuffing

  • Manifestation: Scratches, grooves or material loss on the raceway, leading to increased clearance and running noise.

  • Causes: Ingress of dust, sand or metal impurities into the bearing, insufficient lubrication, or misalignment during installation.

3. Rust & Corrosion

  • Manifestation: Red/brown rust spots on the bearing surface, resulting in jamming and reduced rotation accuracy.

  • Causes: Exposure to humid, corrosive environments, water/moisture ingress, improper storage, or use of incompatible lubricants.

4. Cage Damage / Breakage

  • Manifestation: Cage deformation, fracture or falling off, causing the bearing to jam and fail completely.

  • Causes: Excessive impact load, improper installation (direct hammering), high-speed operation beyond limit, or severe misalignment.

5. Overheating & Seizure

  • Manifestation: Bearing overheating, discoloration, and eventual seizure, locking the shaft.

  • Causes: Excessive preload, insufficient lubrication, high-speed operation beyond design limit, or bearing contamination.

6. Brinell Indentation

  • Manifestation: Permanent indentations on the raceway, causing vibration and noise during rotation.

  • Causes: Excessive static load during storage/transport, improper press-fit installation, or impact shock.
